Garages are very important to the safety of you and your family. Because of this, time and effort is invested in ensuring that they are properly installed and maintained. But just as with other parts of the home such as plumbing or electrical wiring, there are always issues that can and will arise in garages. Here are some of the most common garage door failures.
Broken or Worn Springs
Garage door springs are a common point of failure. When the spring is broken or worn, it can open and close your garage without any power. If one wire on a torsion spring breaks off, then there is not enough tension to pull up the other end. This causes both ends of the spring to lose their elasticity which will eventually break if you keep using it like this. Springs also wear out over time as they get used more often; doors that have had continuous use for decades should expect signs of aging by now while doors with only two years’ worth of history shouldn’t be showing such symptoms just yet.

Wear and Tear on the Rollers
One of the common garage door failures can include wear and tear on the rollers. It’s common for some parts to begin wearing out faster than others – much like the wheels in an automobile with uneven treads or wipers at different levels when you wash your car. In these cases, one thing becomes more worn over time due to how often it’s used while other things last longer because they are not being as frequently utilized.
Roller deterioration is another common problem; many homeowners neglect the maintenance of their garage door and as a result, the rollers start to wear down.
This common problem can be prevented by keeping your garage door lubricated, greasing gears whose metal parts meet with friction against one another, maintaining proper pressure in springs when they are wound tight or loosen them when they have too much tension so that it doesn’t break the metal coils inside themselves and finally wiping off any wall surfaces which have dirt on them from people walking into the gate due to poor lighting.
Garage Door Sensor Malfunction
Garage doors come with common sensors that detect the presence of an object in order to stop it from closing. These are usually placed on either side of your door’s path, and work best when they’re installed at least two feet above ground level. However, this sensor can malfunction if any type of obstruction prevents a clear view or signal between both sides; for example, some trees may cause branches to grow too close together (even though garage owners often plant them specifically because they think their leaves will block out sunlight). This is also common during the winter months when snow accumulates around the area where the garage meets the pavement.
Garage Door is Moving Unevenly
Sometimes your garage may move unevenly, or even seem to move up and down at a certain point, because of the way it was built. You may have noticed that some garages slide more easily than others: this is common if one side has been installed higher or lower than the other, whether you can see it on your own garage door or not.
This issue could cause major damage to not only the garage door but the motor as well. If you experience this, it’s important to have the garage door and its track inspected by a professional.
The Remote or Keypad Stops Working
One of the most common garage door failures is when the remote or keypad stops working. This is typically due to a dead battery or faulty remote. If this happens, insert new batteries into the remote and test it again. If that doesn’t work, try another set of batteries or clean the keypad with rubbing alcohol before testing.
If you find that both solutions don’t work, then your garage door opener may need service.
The common symptoms are: – It takes more than one push on button for the opener to respond & open/close
– The garage door opens halfway up but won’t close all the way down
– You can hear an audible clicking noise when pushing buttons on the remote control
